Rural Training Centres (RTCs) are the largest provider of training for rural youth. Many of their students have been pushed out of the formal school system at the end of grades 8 or 10. Faced with no more access to school many return to the village where their only option for further training is attending an RTC.
RTCs receive no support from government in terms of salaries, infrastructure and equipment. RTCs differ markedly in terms of their student numbers, subjects taught, trainer skills and experience, available building and infrastructure, etc and therefore their overall effectiveness.
An RTC’s ability to survive is dependent on their offering relevant, quality training for those in their community at a low cost. Read more »
