Rural Training Centres (RTCs) are the largest provider of training for rural youth. Many of their students have been pushed out of the formal school system at the end of grades 8 or 10. Faced with no more access to school many return to the village where their only option for further training is attending an RTC. RTCs receive no support from government in terms of salaries, infrastructure and equipment. RTCs differ markedly in terms of their student numbers, subjects taught, trainer skills and experience, available building and infrastructure, etc and therefore their overall effectiveness. An RTC’s ability to survive is dependent on their offering relevant, quality training for those in their community at a low cost.

Vanuatu Rural Development and Training Centres’ Association (VRDTCA) is happy to announce its new location.

At the end of April, 2010 the office of VRDTCA moved from it’s former location above the Motor Traders Garage to its new premises beside the lagoon along the Captain Cook Avenue at Nambatu towards Seaside Paama.

The new location is spacious and environmentally friendly. Situated beside the lagoon which presents a calm and serene working environment for the officers of VRDTCA. Such an environment is ideal for working together, helping the people in the rural areas of Vanuatu.

With 10 usable rooms and a spacious conference room, VRDTCA is fully equipped to meet the needs of its member Rural Training Centres (RTCs). Training officers, Program officers and Administration officers find themselves in spacious rooms that enables them to deal with the pressures of daily life at the VRDTCA office.

Access to Internet, email, telephone and fax services makes communications inside the office and outside very efficient. The office Local Area Network runs both Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) on Linux as well as Microsoft Windows proprietary software.

With kitchen and amenities facilities, the new VRDTCA office provides social facilities that caters for the workers’ needs as well as visitors.

We welcome you to the VRDTCA office when ever you come around. Do feel free to ask any staff member to take you on a tour around the office when you drop by. We look forward to meeting you.
